What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a natural response to threatening situations. It is linked to our fight or flight response and comes from our ancestors who were on alert from predators in the wild.
If our brain identifies danger it releases certain hormones to prepare us to either fight or flee from the threat.
These hormones force us to feel on high-alert, our hearts beat faster, so that blood quickly travels to where it is vitally needed when under attack. It is therefore a useful mechanism protecting us from real threats.
Today the same response happens for more modern-day threats, such as
- social situations
- negative thinking and self-talk
- dealing with challenging people
- the work environment
This can result in a constant feeling of threat, which leads to chronic anxiety.
We can find ourselves with our hearts racing, sweaty palms, feeling sick or sometimes feel like we are experiencing a dream or watching ourselves in a movie with no idea how to control it, or stop it happening.
When we are in an anxious state it can be difficult to relax and over time our bodies and minds may forget how to relax.
Hypnosis enables you to experience very deep levels of relaxation. It reminds your body and mind that you are able to relax. This helps you to reduce levels of anxiety, uneasiness and apprehension.
Under Hypnosis the subconscious mind (the ‘inner you’), rather than the conscious mind, is more accessible.
When you combine Hypnosis with other therapeutic tools and techniques, it allows a deeper connection with the subconscious mind. This often means that faster results can be achieved.
Hypnotherapy doesn’t only help you to successfully manage anxiety, but it can boost feelings of self-worth and confidence and can extinguish strong feelings of panic and worry.
Some people see results within one session, whilst for other it may take slightly longer. The average number of sessions for anxiety is between four and six.
Over the sessions we will explore a number of different techniques, which you will use in between sessions and together we will work out which are effective for you.
